It’s Now Time To Apply For The 2015 Hazelden Betty Ford Summer Institute For
Medical Students (SIMS)
It’s that time of year for medical students to begin thinking about their summer plans, just as the 2015 SIMS application has been launched on our website.
I am very excited to inform you that we will be expanding our programming this year in offering 176 full scholarships to attend our 5-day intensive immersion program, the Summer Institute for Medical Students (SIMS). We will be having the SIMS program at both the Betty Ford Center campus in Rancho Mirage, CA and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation campus in Center City, MN.
The scholarship will include airfare up to $500, a hotel room for 6 nights, and a
once-in-a-lifetime experience of an insider’s view of the world-renowned Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.

Medical students come to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation to learn about the science of addiction – they leave knowing the spirit of recovery. They learn about addiction as a bio-psycho-social-spiritual disease and about how treatment addresses the whole person. They are educated on how 12-step programs are used in treatment and become part of the lifetime recovery prescription. They immerse themselves in the treatment process and come to an understanding that the program is about moving from thinking with one’s head towards thinking with one’s heart. It’s about seeing the human being behind the disease.
