16 september 2016
The Group of Water Chemistry and Microbiology of the Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de València (IIAMA-UPV) participates in a study that aims to reduce the contamination of the Membrane Biological Reactors (MBR) systems in the leachate treatment.
Artificial wetlands improve the quality of water and the conservation of habitats and birds
15 july 2016
Different actions for hydric and vegetation management in three artificial wetlands carried out by the LIFE ALBUFERA project have allowed an improvement of water quality at the Albufera. Thanks to this work -carried out during the last three years- restoration of wetlands’ typical habitats has been possible and has allowed for some bird species to nest these areas again.
Plants and fungi, alliance to make better use of carbon dioxide
7 july 2016
A scientist group at the Imperial College of London -among which we find a Spanish member, César Terrer Moreno- have worked to give an answer to an unsolved question: why do some plants grow better when they are at ecosystems with high levels of carbon dioxide while others do not? These unalike behaviours set a debate on the role of plants in the deceleration of climate change as CO2 concentrations keep on growing on the atmosphere.
The Universitat participates in the creation of a database of bacterial isolates in sanitary water
23 june 2016
The Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT) of the Universitat de València, the Aïgues de Barcelona General Society and the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation work in the project ‘Drinking Water Library’, aimed at creating the first database, for the MALDI-TOF technology, of micro-organism isolates in sanitary water. The identification of this type of aquatic plants supposes a qualitative improvement for the evaluation of the microbiological quality of water.

Saving oxygen to consume less
1 june 2016
The interdisciplinary research group of Calidad de Aguas, CALAGUA composed by the staff of the Research Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (IIAMA-UPV) and the Department of Chemical Engineering (IQ-UV), developed the programme LoDif BioControl, that introduces different algorithms that reduce the power consumption of the EDAR up to 40% in the aeration process.
Water for Everyone
23 may 2016
How can we prevent water from being wasted day after day? According to the experts, water saving could significantly increase, if the energy use is taken into consideration. Furthermore, the greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced. Not only in consumption, but also in the treatment and urban distribution of water. The research was developed in California, pioneer region in water distribution and management.
