The Green Horizon Chair: Water–Bioenergy Nexus has organised a visit to the desalination plant of Sagunt, an event in which participants have learned first-hand the functioning of the key infrastructure for the water supply in the Valencian Community. This activity has allowed them to address some of the challenges related with the growth of hydric demand in this territory.
The visit has begun with the presentation of ACUAMED (Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas, S.A.), the entity that owns this Seawater Desalination Station (EDAM). During the event, the working process in this facility was shown, whose management and operation belongs to the UTE Facsa-Cox.
Subsequently, students from the Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering of the Universitat de València have taken a guided tour around the plant. They have learnt the functioning of the desalination plant and the main technical challenges related with the operation of any infrastructure of these characteristics.
Moreover, the event has been consolidated as a connection between the scientific and the business field, one of the main goals of this Chair promoted by the Universitat de València along with Facsa and Sitra.
In this context, the event had also the intervention of Young Water Professionals (YWP Spain), which have presented their international network focused on promoting the knowledge exchange between young professionals of the water sector.
