Dr. Vicente Calderón Pascual – Head of the Risk Assessment Area and Secretary of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN).

Dr. Calderón plays a key role in the field of food safety, leading the area responsible for assessing food-related hazards and contributing to the scientific analysis of risks that may affect consumers’ health. In addition, as Secretary of the AESAN Scientific Committee, he is involved in coordinating and developing the scientific opinions that support decision-making in the areas of food safety and nutrition.

His participation gave our students the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the role of scientific risk assessment in protecting public health, as well as the importance of scientific evidence in the field of food safety.

Following this session, our students had the opportunity to gain a closer insight into the work of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) with Dr. José Manuel Barat, an expert in the EFSA Scientific Network on the scientific assessment of risks related to the food chain.

It was an excellent opportunity for our students to broaden their perspective on risk assessment at both national and European level, connecting the knowledge acquired in the classroom with the practical work and functioning of the key institutions responsible for food safety.
