The renowned hundred-year-old publication carried out an analysis of the work Historia de la pronunciación de la lengua castellana (History of Spanish pronuntiation), directed and written by several professors of the Master’s Degree in Hispanic Studies.

The reviewed book, Historia de la pronunciación de la lengua castellana (History of Spanish pronuntiation) (2013, Valencia, Université de Neuchâtel/Tirant Humanidades) has been edited by Mª Teresa Echenique Elizondo, professor of the Master’s Degree in Hispanic Studies (the subject “Spanish in contact with other peninsular languages”, from the “Spanish dialect and sociolect: present and past” module) and Francisco Javier Satorre Grau, both disciples of Rafael Lapesa. It is an extensive study about the transformation of how the Spanish language is pronounced, from Nebrija’s work until now, and includes essays from other professors of ours such as Mª José Martínez, Mercedes Quilis or Amparo Ricós, who work with the HISLEDIA group.

This research group (Spanish acronym for Historia e Historiografía de la Lengua Española en su Diacronía, “History and Historiography of the Spanish Language in its Diachronism) studies the evolution of the Spanish language “in contact with other peninsular languages”.

Currently, the group is developing the FRASLEDIA project (“Phraseology of the Spanish Language in its Diachronism”: from its origins to the XVII century). This project, financed by the Ministry of Economy, for R+D Projects in the National Programme for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research (FFI2013-44682-P), is led and coordinated by Dra. M.ª Teresa Echenique and  Dra. M.ª José Martínez, full university professors of Spanish Language at Universitat de València and, as mentioned before, master’s degree professors (“Spanish language and its studies through time”, a subject both lecture for).

HISLEDIA group also developed the Hisprocast project (“History of Spanish Pronunciation”), with the purpose of “building, in an organised way, the changes in the pronunciation of the Spanish language from medieval to contemporary ages”, and in which the discussed publication is listed. It also received state funding from the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Unrestricted access to the content of Revista de Filología Española (Journal of Spanish Philology) is facilitated 6 months after each volume is published. Every edition of the magazine since 1954 (Vol. 38) is available in digital version on their website.
