Teachers of the EOI of València-Cuatro Carreres give a lecture to the “Complements for disciplinary instruction of the speciality of foreign languages” class.
As an initiative aimed to enrich the education of future teachers, two EOI of València-Cuatro Carreres teachers were invited to the “Complements for disciplinary instruction of the speciality of foreign languages” class: Nuria Costa (director of the EOI and Italian language teacher) and Laura Biosca (English language teacher and education coordinator). This meeting, celebrated on Wednesday, 15 November, was a direct response to the concerns displayed by the students regarding the professional opportunities in language teaching.
The guests shared their experience and knowledge on what implies to be a teacher in an EOI in Valencia. They addressed central topics, such as preparing for entrance examinations for this kind of teaching personnel, providing a valuable vision of the process and the requirements needed to obtain a post in this Special Regime educational level.
A key point of the lecture was the importance of linguistic and intercultural mediation in the teaching of languages. With this approach, the teachers gave different examples of programmes and didactic units that integrate mediation, both in English and in Italian. These demonstrations highlighted the need of fostering the intercultural understanding and the communication skills in a world that is each time more globalized.
The event was well received by the students, who appreciated the opportunity to directly interact with active professionals of the language teaching field. This interaction has not only provided a practical vision of the challenges and rewards of the profession, but has also motivated many students to keep exploring this professional field with a new perspective.
With these activities, the class of “Complements for disciplinary instruction of the speciality of foreign languages” continues with its commitment with excellence in education and training of future teachers for a diverse and interconnected world.
