As mentioned, a Master’s Degree involves an academic qualification and as such the TFM (Master’s Degree final project) it must accomplish some academic requirements and must have certain forms, which also will be used for its later assessment and will help the Assessment Committee for marking with determined marks. In this sense, the Master's Degree in Tourism Management and
Planning offers to students the possibility of doing two types of TFM:
a) TFM with research approach
b) TFM with professional approach
We understand as TFM with research approach the project that raises a research question and wants, from a proper review of the existing academic literature, to give an answer to this question through research, either quantitative or qualitative. Therefore, the strengths of this type of projects should be the review of the literature and the empirical research that appears for contrasting it or the hypotheses formulated.
The students will have also the possibility of doing a TFM with professional approach, if they want to extend the acquired knowledge through the work placements done and write academically about their experience in their TFM. To this end, they also have to analyse the academic literature related to the field of activity or to the type of company where they have developed the work placement, and raise a specific problem that they may have observed or in which they have participated during their stay in the organisation as student in work placement. In this case, the key strength should be the correct description of the company or sector and of the specific difficulties selected.
