While it is not possible to determine an optimal number of pages for a TFM (Master’s Degree final project), the experience shows that is not viable to do it in less than 50 pages, and to exceed 100 pages is not recommended (excluding any appendices or quantitative results of researches).
We recommend you using the following model format of TFM:

  • Cover: We will attach a template in the Virtual Classroom.
  • First page:
  • a) TFM title, the name of the student, e-mail and name of the academic tutor.
    b) Summary and key words: the summary from 50 to 100 words, you must write concisely the content and main conclusions, and ending with 4 or 6 words for classifying the TFM.
    c) TFM typology: research or professional approach.
  • Text:
All the TFM parts, with its appropriate title, can be divided into subtitled and numbered sections. See table 1 for the recommended structure of the TFM.
The text should be typed double-spaced, with Arial font and size 10, with wide margins (top and bottom of 2,5cm, left and right of 3cm).
Footnotes and appendices only should be used when it is strictly necessary.
  • Charts, tables and graphs: The charts, tables and graphs distributed through the document must be organised in Arabic numerals, followed by brief descriptive titles. The data of the tables should be presented in columns and omitting non-significant decimals. The important details have to be placed as table, chart or graph footnotes. In the text all the illustrations, graphs and maps will be called “Charts”. The size of the tables, charts and graphs is preferable not to exceed one page. You do not have to include photocopies or similar printings obtained in books or journals. You can only include in the text a limited number of charts, tables or graphs, which are important for the study. All must be accompanied by its respective bibliographic sources or indicated as your own elaboration.
  • Abbreviations and Acronyms: You must spell and describe them properly when used first time in the text.
  • Bibliography: In the text the bibliographical references should be quoted in brackets with the name of the author and the year of publication. For example: (Author/s surname-Year), or (Dann and Cohen 1991; Smith 1987, 1989). For more specific references or for direct quotes you must indicate the numbers of the pages (Graburn 1989:23). The bibliographic list at the end of the text  should be double spaced and in alphabetical order of authors. See section 6 for more information.

The TFM of the MPDT finishes with 2 parts added to the academic project:

a) Description of the relationship between the acquired knowledge in the Master’s (teaching modules and work placement/institution) with competences and skills developed.
b) Curriculum of the student.
