Within the Master's degree in Biodiversity, Conference: "Fish Behaviour:From Aquaculture to Zoology"
Kit Magellan, researcher at the Inst. D'Ecologia the U.Girona Aquatica, makes us a brief summary: Animal behaviour is central to many fields of research and several fish have become model species. I will present a brief overview of fish behaviour followed by three case studies from my own work that illustrate how behaviour informs on a variety of topics. The study of aggression in aquarium fish enables aquaculturists to improve conditions for their stock and therefore increase profits; the behaviour of fish exposed to ecotoxicants provides a cheap and timely method of assessing the extent of pollution; and the behaviour of invasive species is fundamental to their invasive success.
