La Barraca, Drama and University. Past and present of an Utopia

Exhibition about La Barraca of Federico García Lorca

La Barraca, Drama and University. Past and present of an Utopia, which covers the history of La Barraca of Federico García Lorca since its founding in 1932 up to its extinction during the Spanish Civil War.

La Barraca, the Universtiary Theatre directed by Federico García Lorca, was one of the big cultural companies of the Second Republic. Its aim was to bring the classics of the Siglo de Oro to the most distant corners of Spain: Cervantes, Lope, Tirso, Calderón...Young enthusiasts, most of them recruited in the Universidad de Madrid, collaborated in the project. During four years they brought, like renovated minstrels, the classic plays to the squares of towns and cities.es.

One day that dream was over with the outbreak of the Civil War. Several components of La Barraca, beginning from who had been its director, died in tragic circumstances and different trenches. Some went into exile and some remained in Spain with the bright memory of that brilliant adventure which this exhibition wishes to commemorate.
