Gregorio González Alcaide, full university professor of the Department of History of Science and Documentation from the Universitat de València, claims that generative artificial intelligence (that which has been trained and can generate, under petition, text, images, videos, code, simulation or presentations) will “soon” be integrated into research and university teaching. On his new book 1 d.C (después del ChatGTP), the expert suggests that after the initial doubts towards this technology, the evaluation methods, the institutional policies and the training of university teachers should all be reevaluated.

In the Decalogue that he provides for all teaching and research staff, Gregorio González claims that they should get familiar with the usage and potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), on top of knowing the risks, obtaining the relevant information related with the context of use in which the generative artificial intelligence will be used, or respecting the right of the potential reader to know if a text has been generated by a human, with artificial intelligence or through a mixed method.

Furthermore, it is important to “alternate between the use of generative artificial intelligence with exclusively human participation, particularly in fields of creative nature”. Gregorio González also asks that, in a context in which society is growing ever more dependent on technology, we do not become AI dependent. Applied to science, an example of mechanical tasks that can be delegated to AI is to adjust the generated contents to the bibliographic citation style or, in a research project, to the appropriate statistical trials, how to carry them out or how to interpret the data.

The expert also suggests verifying and managing the research results critically, to limit the sensible information to which the chatbots have access to, as well as limiting their unsupervised decision-making capacity.

The book also includes an exhaustive review of the legal framework around AI and the initial decisions taken by different international institutions about ChatGPT. It also takes into account the doubts that may appear about academic integrity (the development of individual work made by students using their own abilities), the lack of AI regulation, data protection, cognitive bias and the use of AI applied to gender and diversity (which can cause the rise of some stereotypes caused by the tool).

The book 1 d.C (después del ChatGPT), offered by the UV Publications Service, includes a didactic unit directed to students about training and responsible use of generative Artificial Intelligence.
