Today is World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD), a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness of migratory birds and the need to cooperate internationally to conserve them.

This year's motto is "Birds connect our world", highlighting their role as a link between the different ecosystems, as well as reminding us the importance of their conservation.

For this reason, in these days of lockdown, in which our movements are limited and our noise pollution has decreased by this atypical situation, it is time to look through the window and take this opportunity to enjoy the singing of birds, as well as discover these great strangers, who in our daily routine go unnoticed.

Likewise, this situation makes a difference in terms of making us aware of the need to have less polluted cities, favouring these and other birds to stay throughout the year, and this can only be possible with a change of habits, less noise and light pollution, and less use of plastics that harm our planet and its inhabitants.

Urban migratory species include the Barn Swallow, Common House Martin, Common Swift, Lesser Kestrel, Scops Owl, Alpine Swift, Pallid Swift, and Song Thrush.
