Biographical outline:

Maria del Mar Bonet i Verdeguer (Palma de Mallorca, 1947) began his artistic career in Franco's style, taking part in the La Nova Cançó movement, an incardinated movement in the cultural current of the protest song of the 60s and 70s of the last century, and with clear French roots (Brassens, Jacques Brel ...).

The New Song was driven by a heterogeneous group of young singer-songwriters, who spread with their voices and poems a message of resistance to the Franco dictatorship from the social and cultural struggle.

With the establishment of democracy, many of these singers abandoned their artistic career. It was not the case of Maria del Mar, who continued research and innovation on popular music beyond our borders, in Greece and Tunisia, for example, and collaborated with various singer-songwriters, poets and artists.

For more than 45 years, Maria del Mar Bonet has stood out for his work of dissemination and promotion of Mediterranean folk music and of our cultural heritage (such as the Cant de la Sibil·la).
