València hosts the International Narcotics Research Conference until 8th July, a congress about basic and clinical research working on the field of opioids, narcotics, pain and addiction. The chair of the scientific committee is Lucia Hipólito, professor at the Department of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology and Parasitology of the University of Valencia.

The purpose of the research presented at this international conference aims to expand knowledge of how the human nervous system works and how it is altered in pathologies such as chronic pain, addiction and other neuropsychiatric diseases, in order to design more effective and safe therapies.

The tittle of the meeting is “New Advances in Opioid Research: from bench to the bedside”, and includes 3 Plenary lectures. They are of Robert W. Gereau IV (Washington University St. Louis), Brigitte Kieffer (University of Strasbourg-INSERM) and Christopher J Evans (University of California Los Angeles). Their research is focusing on opioid signaling in pain and mental health and disease.

Additionally, the program will include 9 Symposia covering a broader spectrum of topics and offering the opportunity for contributions by junior researchers. Two types of registration are available: “in person” and “virtual”. The virtual option gives the opportunity to follow the symposia, plenaries, Young Investigator Awards and Founder’s lectures in life streaming or on-demand. Moreover, virtual attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers during the discussion time. The co-chair of the conference is José Morón-Concepción, professor of Anesthesiology, Neuroscience and Psychiatry, in the Washington University Pain Center and Director for the Division of Basic Research.

The University of Valencia, the Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and the Digital Society, and the British Pharmacological Society, among other entities, have collaborated in this congress.
