Tribal Belly dance. Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:20 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

What is the tribal dance?

Tribal dance was born in the United States at the end of the 1960s. It was inspired by the ethnical dances and clothing of Arab, Bedouin, Turkish, gypsy, Hindu and Flamenco folklore. Carolena Nericcio founded in 1987 “Fat Chance Belly Dance”. It was a well-defined group dance that is improvised taking advantage of a series of indications, steps and formations known as ATS@ “American Tribal Stile”. Fat Chance refers to a joke among dancers who refused to be seen as sexual objects: “fat chance you can have a private show”. This style has expanded all over the world these days and can be improvised by any dancer who knows the format without previous rehearsals. It is shocking because of the colourful and over-elaborated wardrobe with Afghan, Hindu and Turkish accessories. This dance encourages mutual understanding, respect and the unity of the group.

At the end of 1990s, Jill Parker created the first group of Tribal Fusion. The wardrobe was lighter and he introduced new choreographies. Later, Rachel Brice danced the first solo dances of Tribal Fusion and made Tribal dance popular all over the world thanks to her perfect technique and muscular control.  Nowadays it has fused with a wide variety of Western dances and aesthetics, creating styles such as urban, fusion, dark, vintage, folk, gipsy, contemporary...

One of the main features is the concepts developed by Doriana Rossi such as foot-layering and tripop-suelo. Every movement is linked to the music.
