17 universities competed at the XXVI International University Tournament in Pelota, Zabalki, an international tournament of various modalities of Basque pelota.
6 students of the Universitat de València climbed at the top of the podium at the International University Tournament in Pelota, Zabalki 2022, held in Pamplona on March 17th. Mar Giménez won the golden medal in the Women’s Frontball Individual modality. She was also chosen as the best player of the tournament. Rubén Moreno finished in first place in the individual Paleta de Goma (rubber) modality. In men’s Frontennis, the doubles team of the UV, comprised of Cristian Razvan and Sergio Ramos, won the golden medal. Isabel Monzonis and Lucía Pilar Deusa also won in the women’s doubles Frontennis modality. In the overall team classification, the Universitat de València achieved a third place, adding a bronze medal to the UV’s medal table.
The competition has been held annually since 1997 and rotates between Spain and France. The Public University of Navarra was the host university in this 2022 edition, in which 117 students (82 men and 35 women) from 17 universities (9 French and 8 Spanish) participated. The matches took place in seven frontons in Pamplona, and players competed in eight different categories (double hand-pelota, paleta goma, frontball, frontennis, Argentine paleta goma and cesta punta).
