From 20 to 30 September, the Universitat de València will celebrate International University Sports Day and European Sports Week with a series of activities open to the public on the Blasco Ibáñez, Tarongers and Burjassot Campuses. UVsports joins their efforts with these vital initiatives to promote physical activity and a healthier lifestyle on campus.
International University Sports Day, initiated by UNESCO and supported by the FISU (International University Sports Federation), has been celebrated every year on 20 September since 2015. European Sports Week, an initiative promoted by the European Commission, will be celebrated from 23 to 30 September in all the member states of the EU, with the aim of promoting physical activity and healthy eating habits. This edition, which coincides with the 2024 Olympic Games, hopes to see a surge in participation compared to past years.
Throughout the week, the Universitat de València will offer a special programme that will include a variety of sporting activities with no need for prior registration. From 23 to 30 September, the university community and the general public are invited to enjoy a wide range of activities at our sporting facilities from dance and yoga to rugby and archery. These activities include bachata, baseball 5, flamenco, calisthenics, aerobics, tribal dance, salsa, wheelchair tennis, running, kendo, judo and much more. Visit our facilities and select the activity that best suites your abilities, interests and availability. All of the activities are free.
Among the various activities that will take place during European Sports Week, we would like to highlight a sports day especially for women called Move with us organised by the Chair for Women and Sports. This event will take place on 28 September from 9am to 1pm at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.
Another activity we’d like to highlight is the EMPODERA’T: Mou-te amb la Uni project (Empower yourself: Move with the Uni), which will take place in the blue hall on Thursday, 28 September from 10:30am to 11:30am. This project fosters the practice of physical sports activities among women from 18 to 24 years old through HIIT routines offered by videos. The session will be broadcast live from the UVsports YouTube channel.
On 25 September at 4pm, there will be a beach volleyball tournament on the Tarongers Campus. The teams will be made up of two players from the university community and registration is free. Register here
From Monday 23 to Friday 27, at different times, specialists from the Baseball, Softball and American Football Federation of the Valencian Community will teach sessions in Baseball 5. During these sessions, the experts will lead participants through exercises and games, as well as explain the rules and technical aspects of the game. The activity is open to anyone who is interested. Check out the timetables and locations.
