
Teams and sportspeople from Universitat de València left their mark at the European University Chamionship 2025 during the summer, conquering the continental 3x3 basketball male competition, winning the bronze in female 3x3 basketball and four other medals in combat sports.
3x3 Basketball
The 3x3 Basketball Competition took place in Salerno, from 1 to 5 August. UV teams excelled in both categories.
The male team started the group stage (Group C) i high gear, with victories against Debreceni Egyetem (Hungary) with 17-13 and Università di Ferrara (Italy) width 15-12. They landed a victory against Univerzita Pardubice (Czech Republic) with 21-13 but lost against Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas (Lithuania) with 15-22. The closed the group stage with a victory against Sveučilište o Zagrebu (Croatia) with 19-17, which lead them to the round of 16 confidently.
UV displayed determination and their comback during the elimination phase. They earned their victory once again against Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas (Lithuania) with 22-17, although they lost against Shumn University (Bulgaria) with 11-21. They reacted and won agains University of Sevilla in the semifinals with 20-17 and ended in the final round against Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas. They landed the second position, showcasing their sport spirit, constant efforts and dedication.
The female team attained their own victory. They triumphed at the group stage against Unierzita Ostrava (Czech Republic) width 17-13, Magyar, Testnevelési Egetem (Hungary) with 17-16, Universität Wien (Austria) with 19-14 and their final opponent, Universitatea Politehnica din București (Romania) with 15-7, securing their way into the elimination rounds.
They passed quarter finals against Széchenyi István Egyetem (Hungary) with 19-8, but eventually lost in the semifinals against Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Ukraine) with 11-13. They landed another victory against Universitatea Politehnica din București (Romania) with 18-16, which earned hem the bronze medal.
Kick-boxing and taekwondo
UV competed in Warsaw (Poland), from 22 to 25 August in kick-boxing, where Damian Asins García won the bronze medal in the male KL category —84 kg, and Arantxa Perles Sànchez also won bronze in the female KL category —65 kg. Meanwhile, Vanessa Chiamaka Shestopalka won the silver medal in taekwondo in the female Kyorugi category +62 kg to 67 kg, and Jorge Murillo Palacios won the bronze medal in the male Kyorugi categry +58 kg to 63 kg. Other students landed remarkable position as well. Fifth places went to Albert Fernández Iván, Enric Salvador Martínez, Alejandro Martín Sánchez, Joaquín Fenollar Martínez and Nerea Portillo Lázaro; and ninth places went to Marta Escrig Romero, Silvia Soriano Bacete and Carolina Piquer García.
Final medal balance of 2025
Universitat the València closed the European University Championship 2025 with a great deal of medals and participation, with over 100 sportspeople competing in their diverse disciplines. The gold medal for the female tennis competition, silver medals for male indoor football team, taekwondo female team, 3x3 male basketball team and female basketball team; and bronze medals for the 3x3 female basketball team, male taekwondo and both kick-boxing representatives earned UV eight medals for a successful summer of university sports and high-level performance, displaying the efforts and constant dedication of the students.
