This week, the Universitat de València has been proclaimed champion of racquetball at the Regional University Sports Championship of the Valencian Community and runner-up in sailing.

Racquetball

On Tuesday, 5 March, the Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU) racquetball tournament took place. It was organised by the University Miguel Hernández of Elche.

In the men’s category, Llorenç Frechina Gimeno from the Degree in Business and Law and Carlos García Herrero from the Degree in Criminology won the silver medal.

In the women's category, Leire Barona Moreno from the Degree in Medicine and Carmen Toro Rodríguez from the degree in Physiotherapy won the gold medal.

In mixed pairs, Juan Pastor Vilar from the Degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and Lucía Pilar Deusa Alhambra from the Degree in Primary School Education also won the gold medal.

The Universitat de València was declared champion in racquetball teams thanks to these excellent results from our racquetball players.

Sailing

On the other hand, the UV was declared regional runner-up in the CADU sailing competition, right behind the UPV and ahead of the UA. The crew is formed by Obdulia Fernández de Ibarra Sena from the Degree in Medicine; Justo Martinez Terrasa and Ignacio Toronjo Lobo from the Degree in Dentistry; and Elena de Tomás Pereda and Antonio Martino Martínez from the Degree in International Business. It is coached by Juan Calvo Boronat. The crew has competed at a high level in the Real Club Náutico de Calpe, but could not beat the UPV, which was declared champion.

Rowing

The competition was not so favourable for our athletes, who were unable to finish higher than fourth place in the rowing category.
