The UV wins 6 medals in the University Spanish Karate Championship

The Universitat de València won one golden, two silver and three bronze medals in a championship that reunited more than 150 karate fighters from 40 Spanish universities.

The Wssell de Guimbarda Pavilion at Cartagena held the University Spanish Karate Championship (CEU) 2022 on April 30th.

In the kumite modality, the UV went strong with its young talents. Hugo Ballester (-67 kg) won the golden medal by beating Jorge García from the UPV in the final. Segio Renovell (+84) won the silver medal after losing against Marcos Martínez (UCAM) in the final. Patricia Peso (-50) won the bronze medal after losing to Alba Pinilla (UPV) in the ½ round. Karate fighters from the UV Iván Ferrer (-84) and Víctor Rubio (-75) also achieved the third place in the podium. Elena Fresquet (-68) obtained the fifth place.

The Universitat de València did not win any medal in the kata modality, but our karate fighters did a great job. María San Francisco and Marcos Goda finished in fifth place.

The overall balance of the championship gave the Universitat de València the silver medal and, therefore, its sixth medal in the championship that earned it the second place in the overall team classification. The winner was the host university, the UCAM of Murcia, and the bronze medal went to the Universitat Politècnica de València.
