The "Virus Hunters" workshop aims to find phages, bacterial viruses, against multi-resistant bacteria. The misuse of antibiotics has favoured the emergence of multi-resistant bacteria and has now become a global health problem. Currently, in the absence of treatments, it is necessary to investigate alternative therapeutic approaches that allow us to treat bacterial infections in a specific and effective way. In this sense, phages, viruses of bacteria, are postulated as a promising tool in the fight against multi-resistant bacteria.

The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness of the current problem with resistant bacteria, as well as the use of phages as antimicrobial therapy. A small field work will be carried out in search of phages in the surroundings and the samples obtained will be treated to isolate them.

The workshop will be given by Pilar Domingo-Calap, principal researcher of the Environmental and Biomedical Virology group at the Institute of Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio) of the University of Valencia, together with members of her research group.

Target audience:  The workshop can be adaoted to any educational level
