The Charles Darwin hall at the interfacultative lecture room building in the Burjassot-Paterna campus has welcomed the opening of the course Estalmat in the Valencian Community , project for the stimulus of the mathematical talent for children with special ability for mathematics. The initiative develops during two years extracurricular activities which are held on Saturdays.

This year takes place the seventh edition for which twenty-five Valencian children born in 2000 or 2001 have been selected. As usual, the course had already started with a camp held in the town of Requena the 28 and 29 September, which was sponsored by the local council and CajaMar.

The opening ceremony was presided by Olga Gil, Vice-Principal for International Relations of the University of Valencia, who was accompanied by Rafael Crespo, dean of the Faculty of Mathematic Sciences and coordinator of the project in the Valencian Community; Gaspar Mora, representing the principal of the University of Alicante, and Thomas Queralt on behalf of the Society of teachers of Mathematics Al Khwarizmi.

Both freshmen as second year students attended, accompanied by their families and teachers of the project. This year it is planned to continue with the "veterans biennial program" for students and graduates.

In the talks, the participants encouraged the boys and girls selected to take advantage with their effort and high capacity the benefits of a project sponsored by the Royal Academy of Sciences, and which is present in ten branches spread throughout the Spanish state and in which professors and secondary school teachers are involved. The CSIC supports the project by managing an annual visit to one of its centers of excellence in the CV (Valencian Community).

The also traditional talk was given by the Professor Rafael Crespo, under the title "The Mathematics that move me."
