“It has been a way of looking at one’s one life and transforming it into fiction, in case one day memory needs to make an effort when time goes by and the characters are different, so that is recorded in words...”, says Maria Saiz, winner of the Narrative in Valencian category of the Universitat de València Creative Writing Awards in the last edition. In this video, in addition to commenting on her work, Si Déu Vol (Edicions 96, 2021), she encourages university students to participate in the XIX edition of the Premios UV de Escritura (UV Writing Awards) which is open for submissions until 28 April.

Saiz is a doctorate student of the programme in Langauges, Literatures, Cultures and their applications in the Universitat de València. She explains that her work is a tribute to the persons that have been with her through her life and have shown her the indifference that people with mental illness still suffer. On the website of the call for entries you can read an excerpt of her short story and of the rest of the winning works in previous editions.

The deadline to participate in the XIX edition of the Creative Writing Awards of the Universitat de València is April 28 at 14:00. This competition promotes and stimulates the literary creation among the studies of Valencian universities and the ESAD. Originals can be submitted in six categories: poetry in Valencian, poetry in Spanish, narrative in Valencian, narrative in Spanish, theatre and short film script. The winner of each category will receive 1000 euros and its publication. Additionally in the short film script, a production grant of 2000 euros is awarded if the short film is made.

This awards are organized by the SeDi Information and Promotion Service with the collaboration of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication, the Literature, Poetry, Performing Arts and Cinema Departments of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport, Edicions 96 and the 21st Century Theatre Collection.
