UV Arsmaya Research Group researchers Cristina Vidal (UV) and Gaspar Muñoz (UPV) have presented in Mexico and Guatemala the Mayatech project: the Virtual Museum of the Maya Culture, an innovative initiative which puts faith in the digitalisation and accessibility of cultural heritage.

This project develops an immersive space utilising the latest technologies to offer a museographic experience without physical barriers. Its design allows for the scientific and realistic exploration of buildings, monuments and artistic objects through interactive and multisensory tours. In addition, it includes intangible heritage, such as traditions and customs, within a narrative approach which enriches the experience of the visitors.

This project is based on the UV research trajectory within the Maya heritage sphere, whose antecedents are found in the Prometeo-Mayatech projects (PROMETEO 2016/155 and 2020/066) and the Archaeological Project La Blanca (2004-2019). These initiatives pushed forward the documentation, analysis and dissemination of property assets through the use of advanced technologies and cutting edge archaeometric techniques.

The development of the Mayatech project: Virtual Museum of the Maya Culture reinforces the commitment of the Universitat de València with the preservation of heritage, cultural identity and universal accessibility, applying digital innovation to the knowledge and dissemination of Maya richness.
