On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Pau Rausell, director of Econcult and Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the Universitat de València, will take part in the session “Sustainability: Transforming the Present, Ensuring the Future”, organized by the Federation of Publishers’ Guilds of Spain (FGEE) as part of LIBER 2025, one of the most important international gatherings for the Spanish-language publishing industry.
The session will be coordinated by Carlota del Amo, Director of Corporate Communication and CSR at Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, and will be framed by the European Union’s definition of sustainability: meeting today’s needs without endangering those of future generations.
The discussion will focus on three main areas:
-
Economic: the publishing industry’s social contribution and the challenges of piracy.
-
Environmental: the implications of the European Green Deal and EU regulations for publishing practices.
-
Social: the role of education, promoting reading among young people, and fostering bibliodiversity.
Pau Rausell’s keynote, “The Publishing Sector at the Threshold of the Second Quarter of the 21st Century: Situations and Challenges”, will open the session with an analysis of current transformations and long-term strategies for a sustainable publishing industry.
What is LIBER?
Established in 1983, LIBER has become the largest international book fair in the Spanish-speaking world. Held alternately in Madrid and Barcelona, it gathers publishers, booksellers, librarians, authors, translators, distributors, and literary agents, as well as institutional representatives and international delegations. Beyond its commercial dimension, LIBER features a professional program of conferences, roundtables, and workshops that address the sector’s most pressing challenges, from digitalization and sustainability to intellectual property, internationalization, and reading promotion.
