The University of Valencia is organizing, through Econcult and the UV Cultural Observatory, with the collaboration of the Faculty of Economics, the day 'Putting culture on the map' next Wednesday, February 26.

This is a seminar that will investigate geolocation technologies to map and analyze cultural heritage.

With the sentence 'Culture does not happen in the void; every artistic expression, heritage manifestation and cultural experience are deeply rooted in a territory', the conference will address the key role played by "place" as a factor that shapes and conditions cultural processes. In a context where geolocation technologies and the availability of open data offer previously unthinkable possibilities, the interventions will show how to map and analyze culture in an innovative way. The program will have presentations by experts such as the professor Pau Rausell (director d’Econcult), who will present the initiative Virtuopolis; the journalist Raul Sanchez (elDiario.es), who will talk about data, maps and journalistic information; and the coordinator Ekaterina Travkina (OECD), who will participate remotely to explain the framework for collecting cultural data at the local level. In addition, leading projects of heritage mapping and cultural cartography will be made known Silknow -recently awarded with the Europa Nostra Grand Prix-, SeMap, ClioViz, SICCRED the PITEC, among others. The event will also be broadcast by streaming. With this conference, promoted by Econcult's Cultural Economy Research Area, the University aims to highlight the importance of spatial analysis in cultural planning and encourage the use of digital and innovative tools to understand and represent culture in the territory.
