António Carlos Cortez, born in Lisbon in 1976, is Portuguese a poet, literary critic and professor. He is a professor of Portuguese language and literature and researcher in the (CEHUM) (Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho.) He specialises in Modern and Contemporary Literature. Currently, he is a consultant for the National Plan for the Arts and a teacher trainer.  He was a consultant for the National Reading Plan in Portugal between 2010 and 2016 and member of the board of directors of the Portuguese PEN Club.

He is also a permanent collaborator in the newspaper Jornal de Letras, with his column "Palavra de Poesia", and a columnist in Público and in the journals Colóquio-Letras and Relâmpago.

His poems have been translated to several European languages. He appears in some anthologies, such as Escribiré en el Piano - 101 poemas portugueses (Mexico, 2015)

Awards: 

2011: Premio Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores, for Licorne.

2017: Grande Prémio de Poesia Teixeira de Pascoaes APE/ Câmara Municipal de Amarante, for A Dor Concreta.

2020: Premio nacional de poesia RUY BELO awarded for "Jaguar" (edições Dom Quixote)

2020: Premio de poesia António Gedeao / FENPROF awarded for "Jaguar" (edições Dom Quixote)

2022: Grande Prémio de poesia Associação Portuguesa de Escritores/ Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho awarded for Diamant (edições Dom Quixote, 2021)

2023: Prémio de conto APE/ LabPortugal 2050 inserido no contexto dos 50 anos do 25 de Abril de 1974.
