James II, on 15th March 1298, freed "the whole valley of Marinyén and Alcalà castles, along with the villages and farmhouses, so that a monastery could be founded". At that time, thirteen monks moved from the Santes Creus Monastery to Simat to form the community and began working on the new monastery. Since the foundation of this monastery until its exclaustration in 1835, it was on the verge of six centuries of continuous evolution until it became one of the best monasteries that the Cistercian Order had in the Peninsula.
Departure at 8 a.m. from Nuevo Centro. We will visit the Monastery of Santa María de la Valldigna. The fountain and the cloister of the abbot's palace, recently recovered, should be highlighted. We will walk to the Xara’s hermitage. In the afternoon, the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de Cotalba is one of the most notable and best preserved monastic buildings in the Valencian territory, a fact that is accentuated by the stylistic diversity of the complex.
The price of the visit is €28 and includes the bus, guide and travel insurance. Lunch will be optional. Remember to always carry your Alumni Card. In all tours and visits, if the entrance tickets must be paid, it means that they are not included.
