The FAO has nominated L'Horta de València as an example in the fight against the coronavirus.

The Food and Agriculture Organization presents L’Horta de Valencia as an example of resilience in dealing with the pandemic. The FAO considers the Valencian Horta to be a World Agricultural Heritage System. GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) was created by the FAO in 2002 to promote and guarantee the future of traditional agricultural systems that have shaped "aesthetically impressive landscapes that combine agricultural biodiversity with resilient ecosystems and a valuable cultural heritage". "L’Horta is shaped by an irrigation system that has been moulded for almost a millennium. Since the 8th century the Arabs imported their diet into the area and with it they sculpted all the gears that have been adapted over the centuries to the crises and probably to other pandemics before the coronavirus.
These factors, together with the mutual support between its inhabitants, make it a highly supportive and self-sufficient environment in the context of an emergency situation such as the present one. "A solidarity network has been set up in l’Horta which has helped to guarantee food for the people of Valencia".
"Thanks to l’Horta's irrigation system, 6000 family farms, including 10 fishing farms, ensure food in Comunitat Valenciana and also to other regions and countries outside its borders. This system of irrigation and water management is an example of agriculture adapted to climatic conditions".
