I’m a lecturer at the University of Valencia. I was previously a postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico), the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) and the Universitat de Barcelona. In 2013 I completed my PhD on naturalistic theories of intentionality at the Universitat de Girona and as a member of the LOGOS Research Group. My supervisor was David Pineda (UdG) and the examining committee was composed by Ruth Millikan (University of Connecticut), Karen Neander (Duke University) and Agustin Vicente (UPV/EHU). During my PhD I was also a reasearch visitor at the University of Connecticut, the Australian National University and the King’s College London.

My main research project concerns the naturalization of intentionality, but I’m also interested in other issues such as the notion of function, deception and the evolution of morality. My areas of specialization are philosophy of mind, pilosophy of biology and philosophy of cognitive science.

Biography

I am interested in the philosophy of medicine, psychiatry, and altered states of consciousness, as well as various issues of ontology and social epistemology. I am a member of the research projects "The Social Roots of Mental Health: Agency and Normativity", "The Epistemology of Responsibility in Agency-Stultifying Situations" and "Metaphysics of Biology: Processes and Dispositions".

In 2023 I made a stay as a Margarita Salas Fellow in the Unit of Excellence FiloLab-UGR (University of Granada). There I worked on the philosophy of psychiatry, especially on the so-called self-illness ambiguity, on objectivity and epistemic injustice in psychiatry, and on some epistemic aspects of psychedelic therapy.

Previously, I worked as a researcher in the Department of Logic and Theoretical Philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid (2021-2022), where I did research on the philosophy of birth — in particular, on the experience of giving birth and on some metaphysical and epistemological aspects of birth care.

I also held a predoctoral researcher position in the Philosophy Departament at the University of Valencia (2016-2019), where I obtained my PhD in Philosophy, with a dissertation entitled Conceptions of Mental Illness: in Search of Reality.

Biography

I studied philosophy at the University of Valencia, where I got my PhD in 2002 for research on Hegel's Philosophy of Right. During that time I benefited of a doctoral fellowship awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science at the Department of Moral and Political Philosophy and could visit the Universities of Muenster and Bochum as invited researcher. After the dissertation I spent two years as a research fellow at the Schelling-Kommission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (2003-2005). Before and after that period I taught introductory courses in philosophy and history of philosophy in various secondary schools. In 2005 I was Visiting Scholar at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

During 2006-2009 I was Assistant Professor of the Philosophy Department at the University of Valencia. In 2009 I became Assistant Professor of the Department of Metaphysics and Epistemology. Since 2012 I work there as Associate Professor. Currently I lead, together with my colleague Prof. Manuel Jiménez Redondo, a research project on Hegel's philosophy of action.

My research is mainly dedicated to German Idealism and its contemporary reception. Other philosophical interests include the history of epistemology, the philosophy of biology and the philosophy of action.

Contemporary authors whom I have devoted a special attention to are Daniel Dennett, Robert Pippin, Robert Brandom, Wilfrid Sellars, Slavoj Žižek, John McDowell, Alasdair MacIntyre, Pirmin Stekeler-Weithofer, Vittorio Hösle, Dieter Henrich and Richard Rorty. I am interested particularly in debates on transcendental philosophy, naturalism regarding mind and knowledge and the concept of self-determination.
