
On 21 October, the Faculty of Law of the Universitat de València will host a new edition of this event, which on this occasion will focus on democracy in the 21st century and good governance in Europe, and will offer a comparative perspective of the situation in Africa, Latin America and North Africa.
The opening of the conference will take place at 12 p.m. on Friday 21 October, in Room N113 of the Faculty of Law. The opening ceremony will be led by the Dean of this Faculty, Javier Palao; the Regional Secretary for Participation and Transparency of the Valencian Department of Participation, Transparency, Cooperation and Democratic Quality of the Valencian Government, Antonio Llorente; and the professor of Political Science at the Universitat de València and director of the event, Carlos García Rivero.
This will be followed by a round table, moderated by Fernando Ntutumu (Universitat de València). Enrique Clari (Autonomous University of Madrid) will address populist parties and democratic decline in Europe; Francisco Sánchez (University of Salamanca) will focus on democracy in Latin America; and Lola Bañón (Universitat de València) will address democracy in North Africa and the Middle East. The session will conclude with a debate between the panellists and the audience.
This conference has been organised by the PAGODA Chair for Open Government, Participation and Open Data –of the Universitat de València and the Valencian Department of Transparency, Social Responsibility, Participation and Cooperation of the Valencian Government–, in collaboration with the Inter-University Institute for Local Development (IIDL).
