Valencian Pilota is played with red and blue teams to be differentiated. Usually, red equipment is worn by the favourite team (judged by their palmarés or their overall state). In professional competitions, the team with a champion player always wears red. For amateur competitions, however, it's the local team that wears red.
These colors were present in the players' sash so that the audience could differentiate them, since before the television, players used to wear white.
