According to Article 3.2 of the RUIGEU regulations:
The Gender Equality Units of Spanish private universities may join the Network upon request, provided they meet the following mandatory requirements:
- Compliance with current legislation.
- An evaluated Equality Plan.
- Endorsement from two universities, at least one of which must be a public university.
- Approval of membership by a vote of the RUIGEU Plenary. Some member units may veto membership (justified based on track record or other reasons).
Applications should be sent to the RUIGEU website administrator: igualtat@uv.es
Private universities applying for membership must meet at least two of the following criteria (six in total):
- Teaching:
- Specific courses for the university community (faculty, teaching and research staff, students).
- Master's or postgraduate programs (minimum 60 ECTS credits) in gender studies.
- Specific equality courses in official degree programs.
- Research:
- Doctoral programs in gender studies.
- Recognized research groups or scientific output in gender studies.
- Chairs, Observatories, Seminars, Institutes, etc.
- Transfer:
Various training and awareness-raising activities for the general public.
Upon receiving each application for membership, the Executive Committee will verify compliance with the established requirements and communicate this to the other universities. The RUIGEU Executive Committee will include the application on the agenda of the next Plenary session, at which the applicant university will present its candidacy, demonstrating its genuine commitment to equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.
