International conference on the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant's birth

The year 2024 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Immanuel Kant, one of the most important thinkers in the history of ideas; his work has had an enormous influence on areas such as the theory of knowledge, ethics and aesthetics, and has even inspired political projects such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Union. As a result of this anniversary, the "Kant-València" research group is carrying out a busy programme of activities that has turned Valencia into one of the world capitals of philosophy.

The Kantian year will close with an international conference: "Kant, then and now. On the tercentenary of his birth" (University of Valencia, Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences, 14-18 October). Around 100 participants from more than 15 countries and three continents will take part. The sponsors and collaborators of the congress include the University of Valencia, the Valencian Regional Government, the City Council, Valencia Cathedral, the Museum of Fine Arts, the La Nau cultural centre and the Tirant lo Blanch publishing house.

Here are its various aspects:

1. Academic programme. Each day there will be a plenary lecture, several semi-plenary lectures and four panels of papers in three languages: Spanish, German and English. You can access the final version of the programme via this link.

2. Book fair. A book fair will be held every day of the conference, where recent publications on Kant and his philosophical milieu will be on display. The online catalogue can be accessed via this link.

3. Cultural programme. It includes an institutional reception at the Palau de Cervelló (Monday 14); an organ concert in the Cathedral: "Music in Kant's time" (Tuesday); a guided visit to the Museum of Fine Arts: "Painting in Kant's time" (Wednesday); a philosophical-musical evening in the Aula magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences: "Kant's worlds" (Thursday); and several closing events in the historic building of the University (Friday). All details can be found at this link.

Members of the university community are invited to participate in the events that are of interest to them. If you would like to register as a congress participant, please write to the email address kv2024@uv.es.
