The main objective of the Genomics Unit of the SCSIE is to development and fine tune new methodologies for genome analysis, interesting to researchers both at the University of Valencia and other public research organisations or companies requesting it. The services offered range from the collection and processing of samples to the analysis and interpretation of the results obtained.

The unit has years of experience in the knowledge and use of DNA sequencing and PCR equipment, as well as in the development of biodiversity study projects through the analysis of molecular markers. The latest technologies of genomic characterisation have been recently incorporated into the services, leading to creation of the Mass Sequencing Laboratory. Currently, the Genomics unit offers conventional sequencing analysis (Sanger), genotyping, gene expression and also massive sequencing (NGS) adapting the protocols to the most appropriate platform. In addition, since 2016, the unit is able to perform all these studies in a single cell thanks to the inclusion of the C1 Single Cell Autoprep System (Fluidigm).

Genomics Unit provides support and services for the following technologies:

  • Mass sequencing.
  • Biocomputing analysis of the data obtained.
  • Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis by capillary electrophoresis.
  • Single cell genomic and transcriptomic analyses.
  • Projects development for the study of biodiversity using molecular markers.
  • Quantitative PCR: real-time qPCR and digital PCR.
  • GMO identification.
  • Quality analysis of DNA and RNA with the Bioanalyzer 2100 (Agilent) equipment.
