Between the 13th and the 16th of June, at the faculty of psychology, there was a summer school event called “Migrations, refugees and the crisis of the European Union”. Expert academics such as Javier de Lucas, Claudio Bolzman, Luca Marin, Ana Paula Beja or Raúl Delgado, took part in the event.
International migrations are a recurring phenomenon and they are studied in various fields such as Law, Political Science, Sociology or Psychology. We are currently presented with the phenomenon of successive migration crises, and we are unable to deal with the challenge. The Syrian refugees are a new issue in the public agenda - an issue to which Northern states have paid little attention. In the light of this, the summer school of Master´s in International Migrations (MIM) of UV has attempted to offer a multi-faceted and multicultural vision of the migration phenomenon, integrating various approaches and disciplines with the participation of international figures (not only from the European continent). MIM´s director, Edelia Villaroya, has organised lectures, workshops and conferences which have thrown light on these matters and which have taken into account the multidimensionality of the process.
In this edition, the school has had national and foreign points of reference in the field of migration. The school was inaugurated by Rafael Crespo, the vice-principal of Postgraduate studies at Universitat de València; Mª Dolores Sancerni, dean of the Faculty of Psychology, and Admando Silva, prinicpal of Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (Mexico).
Apart from the participation of the prominent speakers, there were also workshops organised by CEAR - Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (the Spanish Refugee Aid Commission) and lectures about practical solutions from an institutional approach, like “Factors in emigration and organised crime”.
