Escena Erasmus presented its project the 9th and 10th November at the European Parliament. This act is included among the events scheduled to announce the winning projects at the last edition of the prizes Premis Carlemany de la Joventut, celebrated last May. The prize is aimed to initiatives taken by young people and which encourage the European identity feeling. Escena Erasmus is a pinoneer project in Europe, hosted by the Universitat de València.
Escena Erasmus was born to create an active theatre circuit promoting the exchange of theatre productions in the different languages of the European Union. Former students of the Universitat de València stablished it in 2009. Anna Marí, Josep Vicent Valero and Daniel Tormo participated in the University’s theatre company, and were members of CRIT (for the research and innovation of theatre), and were assisted by the full professor Antoni Tordera in creating the project.
OnThursday 10th, a meeting with the president of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, was held to introduce the project as a tool of integration and cultural exchange among European young people. The project was also presented to other European representatives.
Since it was created, the project has had a good acceptance among the European cultural institutions. The awarding of the prize Premi Carlemany and the president’s interest in the consolidation of the project opens dialogue for the consolidation of the next Xarxa Europea Escena Erasmus (Escena Erasmus European net).
Students from 12 different countries are participating in Escena Erasmus this year. Besides 6 students from Valencia, there will be students from Germany, Italy, Luxemburg or France, among other countries. The performance “El maravilloso retable de las maravillas europeas” has visited more than 30 places in Spain during summer, and is coming back to La Nau cultural centre on 12 and 13th November (Sala Matilde Salvador, 19:30 p.m.). Later, the company will go a theatre festival in Granada and Murcia, going to other European festivals along the remaining academic year.
