Universitat de València’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, has received the eight students from El Salvador and Nicaragua who have taken part in the grants programme Becas Bancaja América Latina 2011-2012 from September 2011 to June 2012. During the meeting, the grantees have told the Principal their experiences in Valencia thanks to their participation in the programme. The Vice-principal for International Relations and Cooperation, Olga Gil, the deputy chairman of Fundación Bancaja, Vicente Montesinos, and the manager of social development in the same foundation, Juan Carlos Soriano, have also attended the event.

Becas Bancaja América Latina grants programme offers university students from El Salvador and Nicaragua a wide range of education opportunities including the opportunity to conduct a post-graduate course at Universitat de València. They can also have 900 practical hours, social volunteering activities, training about leadership, entrepreneurship, finances, business social responsibility, and human resources.

Becas Bancaja América Latina grants are aimed at newly graduates from these Central America countries. Universidad Centroamericana Simeón Cañas, Universidad de El Salvador (UES), Universidad Centroamericana José Coronel Urtecho, and Universidad Politécnica de Nicaragua take part in the programme. The main goal of the grants is establishing cooperation bonds with these universities, and improve the educational opportunities for these students as well. This programme can be continued when the students come back to their countries. They may take part in the activities carried out through the former grantees associations like Aexban, which is located both in El Salvador and Nicaragua. They can keep on learning on subjects like entrepreneurs promotion.

In 1995, Fundación Bancaja started this grants programme. Ten years later, Universitat de València joined in the project, allowing the students to get an official diploma. The students, who have been staying in Rector Peset hall of residence, have been able to finish their instruction and conduct practicals in Fundación Bancaja.
