IULMA has created a translation unit devoted to render service to the teaching and research staff (PDI) of Valencian universities. The main goal of this unit is to transfer specialized linguistic and technical knowledge through translation and other services such as proofreading, editing, projects management, terminology databases or translation memories.

Any translation can be ordered from now filling the contact form at the Translation Unit section of IULMA’s website.

IULMA has many researchers and translators with a great deal of experience in specialized translation -science, technical, law, medical and screen translation-, as well as in more general areas like marketing or print media translation. ILMA collaborates with Tecnolingüística, SL, which is a spin-off of Universitat de València and devoted to language services (www.tecnolinguistica.com), in the management and translation of translation projects.

The translation unit’s aim is to transfer that specialized knowledge to the departments, units and services of Valencian universities. This is possible through the translation, proofreading and editing of abstracts, scientific or academic papers, institutional information, etc. IULMA intends to sign future agreements with local or regional public sector entities which might be interested in these services as well. Its director, lecturer Francisca Suau Jiménez, has stated that ‘IULMA ensures the service quality from the project management to the thorough proofreading and editing since professionals working in the unit have an extensive research experience on the area they are going to work as well as with technical tools.’

The translation uses has the translation project’ management tool Online Translation Management (OTM), which allows, among other things, to properly organize translation projects from initial quotations to translations. Being a unit within Universitat de València favours the management of the work and the communication with clients and translators, according to the persons responsible for the service.

IULMA is currently made up of three Valencian universities: Universitat d’Alacant, Universitat Jaume I de Castelló and Universitat de València, where experts on different knowledge areas work. IULMA works on knowledge tranfer organizing all kind of academic events and signing agreements both with public and private sector entities, which might need any translation and modern languages advice. The general aim of IULMA is the systematization and spread of modern languages knowledge applied to areas like industry, sciences, technology, law, health sciences, etc.
