Premiere of 'L'Indovina', Salvador Giner's unpublished opera, recovered by the University, El Micalet and the City Council

Escultura de Salvador Giner, en Valencia.

The Palau de la Música hosts today Friday, 1 March, the opera 'L'Indovina' by Salvador Giner (1832-1911). This is a world premiere as it is Giner's only opera not to be represented. The premiere (19:30) is a Palau de la Música production, played by the Orchestra of Valencia, chorus and vocal soloists, and directed, this time, by Cristóbal Soler, former director and founder of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Valencia.

Cristóbal Soler knew of the existence of this piece thanks to the recovery project of Giner's musical heritage located in the Choral Society El Micalet, which includes legacy scores and documents from the composer. This project, launched in 2004, was an initiative by El Micalet, who addressed the Patronat d'Activitats Musicals of the General Foundation of the University of Valencia to compose a scientific team.

The team was led by Vicente Galbis López, musicologist and professor at the University. The entire project was sponsored by the City of Valencia. L'Indovina was one of the pieces that came to light thanks to this research project since the only available copy (the original composer) is in El Micalet.

The fruits of this project, completed in 2011, has been the creation of the Giner File in the Choral Society Micalet (where their scores are duly preserved and cataloged), the recording of a CD with four uninterpreted works from the premiere and the publication of the catalog of his production (by Vicente Galbis and Hilari Garcia, current director of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Valencia). Cristóbal Soler has made a critical edition of the score for the occasion and will be published by the ICCMU (Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences).
