Professor of the University of Valencia Francisca Suau Jiménez has been appointed new Director of the Interuniversity Institute of Applied Modern Languages of Valencia (IULMA), when the term of its current director, Professor of the University of Alicante José Mateo Martínez, expired. The IULMA is currently composed of three public universities of Valencia, Valencia, Alacant and Jaume I of Castelló.
Francisca Suau Jiménez is tenured professor in English Language and Linguistics at the Department of English and German Studies from the University of Valencia. She is author of several monographs on translation and economic language, such as 'Specialized translation in English and Spanish on Genres of Economics and Business' and 'Business Translation: pragmatic approach to gender theory and recording'. She has also published various works concerning the use of corpus, textual genres analysis, study of metadiscourse and interpersonality in specialized genres.
In addition to her research, the IULMA launched last year a translation unit specifically dedicated to serve the teaching and research staff (PDI) of the Valencian universities. The IULMA includes researchers and professionals with extensive and proven experience in the area of specialized translation (scientific, technical, legal, medical, audiovisual, etc.) and other areas of general translation (marketing, tourism, press, etc.)
In the coming months, IULMA plans to publish through PUV (Publications of the University of Valencia), two collections of electronic books. A monograph devoted to applied linguistics and specialty speeches, and another collection of dictionaries, which will complement those already published on the web.
The overall objective of IULMA as research center is the systematization and dissemination of knowledge of modern languages (or speeches specialty) applied to the field of industry, science and technology, law and health sciences, among other branches of knowledge.
