The University exhibition on the Natural Park of Chera-Sot de Chera arrives at the town of Siete Aguas

The Cultural Centre of Siete Aguas hosts the travelling exhibition ‘La Universitat de València y sus entornos naturales: El Parque Natural de Chera-Sot de Chera’ (The UV and its natural environments: the Natural Park of Sot de Chera) until the day 5 September. This exhibition, composed by 23 panels, has been organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation of the UV with the intention of reclaiming the heritage values of this representative area of the inland Valencian territory.

The event was attended by the mayor of the town, Daniel Zahonero; the head of initiatives of the Office of the Vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, Antonio C. Ledo Caballero (Department of History of Antiquity and Written Culture; and the curator of the exhibition, Carlos de Santisteban (Department of Geology).

Carlos Santisteban, professor of Geology and director of the only Geologic Park of the Valencian Community, and curator of the exhibition, commented on the 23 panels which reflect the particularities of the Park, such as its geological heritage, geodiversity, climatology, flora, vegetation, herpetic-fauna, night sky, history, economy, etcetera.

The natural territory which entails this Natural Park and its environment is characterised by a great environmental, geological and faunal richness, well-known by a number of administrative figures (Natural Park, Place of Community Importance and Geological Park). Notwithstanding, as Santiesteban highlighted, “The beautifulness and value of this area is still unknown to many citizens, and this travelling exhibition will contribute to promoting the Natural Park and to the proposal in value of its indisputable cultural and environmental assets”.

The 23 panels which compose the exhibition have been compiled by the Support Unit to the Office of the Vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Participation through the support of several specialists related to the Natural Park of Chera-Sot de Chera and of the dissemination works of approximately thirty professors and researchers of the UV: Carlos de Santisteban Bové (Department of Geology), Antonio C. Monrós, Rubén Piculo y Pablo Vera (Instituto Cavanilles of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology), María Sahuquillo y María Rosa Miracle (Department of Microbiology and Ecology), Enric Marco Soler (Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics), Ángel Morales Rubio (Department of Analytic Chemistry), Consuelo Mata Parreño (Department of Prehistory and Archaeology), Daniel Muñoz Navarro y Jorge A. Catalá Sanz (Department of Modern History), Rafael Gil Salinas (Department of History of Art), Juan Piqueras Haba (Department of Geography), Víctor Agulló Calatayud (Department of Sociology and Social Antropology), Gregorio González Alcaide (Department of History of Science and Documentation, Míriam Civera Jorge (Department of theory of Languages and Media Sciences) and technicians of the Support Unit of the Office of the Vice-principal.

This travelling exhibition is part of the territorial strategy that is being carried out by the UV through the Office for the Vice-principal of Territorial Projection and Participation. The framework programme ‘Universitat i Territori’ (University and Territory) aims to guarantee the presence of the educative institution in the Valencian territory through the organization of activities in towns and regions. UV teaching and researching staff collaborates in these activities , who share their extraordinary experience with the Valencian society.

The exhibition may be visited until 5 October in the Exhibitions Hall of the Cultural Cetre of Siete Aguas, where the public may accede on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 to 21:00.
