The University Women Institute (IUED) presenting yesterday, June 26th, the book ‘Lectoras Transversales. La lectura de ficción en una biblioteca de mujeres’ (Cross-cutting women readers. Fiction reading in a women’s library) by Elisa Sanchis Pérez and Cristina Giner Arbiol. The presentation was scheduled at 19:00 in Sala de la Muralla at Rector Peset hall of residence. Ester Barberá, director of IUED, Teresa Yeves, director of Quadern and member of IUED, and Lourdes Rubio, literary critic, took part in the event.

The work, which is part of the colection Quaderns Feministes published by the Women Institute, is a study carried out by the librarians Elisa Sanchis Pérez and Cristina Giner Arbiol. It analyzes the reading and consumption habits of the fiction women readers at the Biblioteca de la Dirección General de la Mujer.

The reasons to carry out this study are the non-existence of similar studies. The book defines the tipical women reader as a cross-cutting reader capable of reading several genres and different levels of readings, briefly, an educated and informed reader.

From teaching and research, the University Women Institute suggests a critical revision of the teaching discourses, as well as the promotion of the scientific cooperation relations with other institutional entities, and especially, the making of alternative ideas with the aim of meeting social demands. All this is done from an open point of view and having into account the promotion of genre equality.
