A total of 229 high school students of biology from public and private centres in Valencia will participate this Friday, February 17, in the exam of the XIV Biology Olympiad-regional phase. The exam in Valencia, which will start at 16:00h, will take place in the Aulario Interfacultativo of the Burjassot-Paterna Campus of the Universitat de València.
The test, simultaneously attended in Alicante, Castelló and Valencia, will gather 430 students of the Region of Valencia, which imposes the greatest index of participation of students regarding the rest of the autonomous communities.
The exam is anonymous and consists on a test about biology contents of the programming during the two last years of high school. It will have 100 multiple-choice questions related to the subject indicated previously.
Evaluation Academic Committee of the Olympiad, formed by professors of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, will determine the finalists and will propose the winners of the Biology Olympiad of Valencia.
The winners of the Biology Olympiad of Valencia will participate in the National Phase, which this year will take place in Pamplona from 23 to 27 March 2017.
Of the total of participants in the National Phase, the best eight will be selected and will represent Spain in the international phases in 2017. These students will obtain during a week a specific training, theoretical and practical, in order to participate in the international phases.
The top four participants rated will represent Spain in the 28th International Biology Olympiad, which will take place in July in Coventry (United Kingdom).
On the other hand, the next four participants rated will represent Spain in the XI Ibero-American Biology Olympiad, which will take place in Portugal in September.
The Biology Olympiad 2017 counts on the collaboration of the Official Association of Biologists of the Region of Valencia and of the Spanish Olympic Association of Biology.
