The programming of temporary exhibitions, organised by the University Culture Service, forms part of a fundamental area of cultural politics of the Vice-Principal for Culture, Sports and Social Engagement. This programming has been consolidated as a cultural tool to promote and share the values that define this institution, with more than five centuries of history.

The basic criteria that support the programming are derived from statutes, within the Strategic Plan of the University of Valencia and the Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, of the University System (LOSU), and are the following:

  • Progress of scientific knowledge
  • Scientific and cultural heritage of the University of Valencia
  • Encouragement of critical thinking
  • Respect for ideological and cultural diversity
  • Recovery and dissemination of one's culture
  • Commitment to democratic memory
  • Dissemination and support of contemporary creativity
  • Condemnation of inequality and social exclusion
  • Diversity, equality and non-discrimination for the LGTBIQ+ community
  • Sustainability and environmental protection
  • Encouragement of the growing networks of involved citizens

The majority of this programming is own produced and is presented at the Cultural Center La Nau of the University of Valencia, an heir of an exhibition tradition that goes back to the end of the XVIII century and that has six exhibition spaces (Acadèmia, Estudi General, Oberta, Martínez Guerricabeitia, Duc de Calàbria, and Bigues) equipped with technical resources required for an optimal museography.

The Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture expands its own activities to other university centres, such as the Cerveró Palace, the Rector Peset Hall of Residence and the Botanical Garden. This decentralisation allows to adapt projects depending on the theme and format, and significantly broadening the exhibition offer of the University of Valencia.

Therefore, other temporary exhibitions are also developed in other campuses, at spaces such as the Espai Vives and the "Gregori Maians" Library of Social Sciences, activated with calls and programmes (Cultura als Campus, Activa Cultura, Residir en la investigació, Mostra d'art públic / universitat pública).
