Andreu Alfaro (1929-2012) is one of the most important Valencian artists of the last century, both nationally and internationally. The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche considered the will to power as the driving force behind human behaviour, pushing us to take action toward achieving our desires. In Andreu Alfaro --born sketch artist, sporadic painter, occasional photographer, and vocational sculptor-- this will strives to endow matter with new and simple forms. A self-taught artist, an avid reader, a traveller attuned to the realities of the world of his time and a citizen committed to the values of liberty and democracy, to his country and its culture, Alfaro put into motion a universal work, always changing but coherent, in which simplicity in form meets spatial complexity to convey messages that challenge all those who contemplate it.

Alfaro’s creative process, in its many facets, stems from drawing, a medium in which he is particularly gifted. The Andreu Alfaro exhibit, “Dibuixar l’espai” (Drawing Space) was conceived and designed by Anacleto Ferrer, Professor of Aesthetics and Art Theory at the Universitat de València, and the artist Artur Heras,  both connoisseurs and experts of Alfaro’s work who also produced the Alfaro-Fuster exhibit “Assaig amb els dits” at the La Nau Cultural Centre in 2017.
For this exhibit, they curated a roadmap of Alfaro’s creative process that traces his passion for form from the sketches in his private workbooks to his large public sculptures.
