Juan Signes Codoñer
Graduate of Classical Philology in University of Salamanca in 1987 and doctorate in Byzantinism in Western Berlin (1987-1989). Predoctoral fellow FPU in Complutense University (1990-1993) and trainee lecturer (1995-1996). Greek Philology professor in Valladolid since 1996 and full-time university professor since 2008. He has been in research stays in Viena, Paris, Birmingham, Oxford and Washington. Bizantinism Spanish Association president since 2017 and Byzantinism Studies International Association vice-president since 2016 until 2022. His areas of expertise are Greek literature, focusing on rewriting processes and historiography, Byzantine history, Greek identity among Eastern cultures, grammar tradition, Greek writing dissemination, Byzantine law and Spanish hellenism in the 16th century. Since October 2020 he has been part of the Greel Philology department in the Complutense University of Madrid and has been leading the researcher group BÓSFORO. 

The conference will include an exhibition of the main traits of Byzantine literature, focusing on language and literary genre, emphasizing historical periods, its conveying and reception in Western countries in latter Middle Ages.
