Selected project .3rd ACTIVA CULTURA CONTEST
ACTIVA CULTURA is a program designed for UV students to promote cultural and artistic practices as a means of self-expression and social criticism. The ultimate goal of Activa Cultura is to democratise and invigorate university spaces by turning them into platforms for artistic expression.
Research and appreciation for the career of the multidisciplinary and feminist artist Inma Coll based on her most recent work. Her activism in the feminist artistic world has been noticed by curators, art critics and associations such as MAV (Women in Visual Arts), Clásicas y Modernas and the Colectiva Portal de Igualdad. Her work, which has had an overwhelmingly emotional impact, deals with hard-hitting themes such as gender-based violence, the neutralisation male violence in the history of art, the emotional destruction of women resulting form the chlichés of romantic love, and a commitment to stop feminicide. Now, at the age of 66, after decades of confronting and struggling with the tastes of the system dominated by art market, she has reaffirmed her principles, which renounce the hegemonic cannon of beauty, to speak to us from a more intimate prism bout a new challenge – ageism in contemporary culture. And she does so through new mediums beyond painting, such as performance, textile art and video art.
Through these new mediums, she aims to link the story of ‘I’ (an older female artist) with the intergenerational dimension offered by university. This connection involves communicative interaction between the fears, desires, hopes, frustrations and rebirths that occur throughout the different stages of human life. With this project, we choose to highlight what makes us unique and the emotional complicity of the arts, which aim to give visibility to the marginalised realities of mass society.
