The Doctoral Studies Programme in Biotechnology appears in the year 2006 by transformation of the Doctoral Studies Programme in Molecular and Genetics Biology (with a quality certification; MCD2004-00262), developed by the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Genetics of the University of Valencia.
Professors of the departments of Plant Biology, Microbiology and Ecology and of the Valencian Institute for Infertility (IVI) of the Univesity of Valencia joined the Biotechnology Programme. Today, most of the researchers of the main Research Institutes in the field of Molecular and Celular Biology based in Valencian are also part of the Programme: Institute of Biomedicine of Valencia (CSIC), Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (CSIC), Institute of Plant Molecular Biology (CSIC-UPV), Príncipe Felipe Research Centre (Valencian Government, GV), Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (GV) and the La Fe Teaching Hospital (GV). This programme got a Quality Certificate in the year 2006 (MDC2006-00495) and a Excellence Certificate in 2011 (MEE2011-0023).

The Doctoral Studies Programme in Biochemistry and Biomedicine is a continuation of the doctoral programme in clinical-medical biochemistry and inmunology (with a quality certificate MCD2004-00415, renewed in 2008). The doctoral studies programme in biochemistry and biomedicine counts with the participation of more than 50 doctors of the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Pathology and Microbiology, of the University of Valencia; of the Institute of Biomedical Researches of Valencia (CSIC); of the Prínciple Felipe Research Centre; the Clinical Teaching Hospital, the La Fe Teaching Hospital, the Doctor Peset Teaching Hospital, and the General Teaching Hospital, all of them in the city of Valencia and of the biotechnology company Project Science

With the combination of the Biochemistry and Biomedical and in Biotechnology programmes a new programme is created; the Doctoral Studies Programme in Biomedicine and Biotechnology expects to include most of the research lines of the molecular area rather than those of the Health, Biotechnology and Basic Research in Molecular, Celular, Genetics and Microbiology Sciences areas that are carried out in Valencia.

A great number of university researchers and from other institutions have joined this programme. They offer doctorate students a wide range of posibilities to make their doctoral thesis in the research work they have decided to take in order to start their research career.
