Structure and format of the doctoral thesis
The doctoral thesis will consist of an original research work prepared by the doctoral student.
The doctoral thesis must include at least the following sections:
- Introduction.
- Objectives
- Methodology.
- Results.
- Final conclusions.
- Bibliographic references adapted to the scientific field of the doctoral thesis.
In addition to the indicated sections, it may contain other chapters such as: Working hypothesis, Objectives, Literature review, ...
Furthermore, it must meet other formal requirements that may be established by the University of Valencia.
The COVER of the thesis must include, at least, the following information:
- University of Valencia emblem.
- Name of the doctoral studies completed.
- Title of the thesis.
- Full name of the doctoral student.
- Full name of the thesis supervisors.
- Full name of the academic tutor, if not the thesis supervisor, only for doctoral students admitted until the 2021-22 academic year.
- Month and year of deposit request.
Recommendations for doctoral thesis format
Format
- The recommended thesis format will be 17 cm wide x 24 cm high.
Cover
In addition to what is indicated in article 1.5 of the above regulation, it must include:
- Doctoral Thesis.
Spine
- Doctoral Thesis.
- Full name of the doctoral student
- Year.
Binding
- Book type.
Recommended Style
- The text should have a line spacing of 1.5 lines, with font sizes appropriate to the format.
- The printing should be double-sided.
Formal Structure
First page
- The same information indicated on the cover will be included.
Second page
- Certificate of thesis direction signed by the supervisors.
Third page
- Will be dedicated to acknowledgments the author wishes to express.
General Index
- Under the title INDEX, the chapters, sections, and subsections included in the thesis will be listed.
List of symbols, abbreviations, and acronyms
- Listed alphabetically.
List of tables and figures
- In numerical order.
Thesis text
- The thesis text must begin with an introduction to the topic, briefly presenting the current state of the discipline addressed by the thesis and explaining the progress it represents over the current knowledge.
- At the end of the text, conclusions reached by the doctoral student will be included, as well as possible suggestions and future developments of the topic addressed, explicitly indicating which parts are entirely original work.
Bibliography
- After the last chapter and before any appendices or annexes, if any, the BIBLIOGRAPHY section will include publications used in the study and development of the thesis.
